Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Flow Bouldering

Bouldering is a form of rock climbing performed on artificial rock walls without ropes or harnesses. Climbers use climbing shoes and chalk to improve their grip, and thick padded matting below protects against falls.

Not at all! Bouldering is perfect for beginners. Our walls have routes for all skill levels, from complete beginners to advanced climbers. Our staff will give you a safety briefing on your first visit, and we run an Introduction to Bouldering class if you want more guidance.

No booking required for a casual visit. Just turn up during our opening hours. For groups of 10 or more, we recommend calling ahead so we can accommodate everyone.

Wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows for movement (think gym clothes). Avoid jeans or restrictive clothing. You'll climb in special climbing shoes (available for hire), so wear socks if you plan to hire shoes.

A day entry gives you all-day access during our opening hours. Most beginners climb for 1-2 hours as it's quite a workout. As you build strength and endurance you'll be able to climb longer.

No equipment is necessary! We hire climbing shoes ($5) and chalk ($3). Many regular climbers eventually buy their own shoes for comfort and fit, but it's not required.

Flow Bouldering has well over 80 climbing problems across a range of wall angles for all skill levels, plus an on-site café serving ethically sourced coffee and nutritious food. We are family and pet friendly.

Bouldering is a relatively safe form of climbing but does come with some risk. Our walls have thick safety matting below, and our staff will teach you how to fall safely during your induction. If you have pre-existing injuries or weaknesses, please chat with our staff for advice to avoid injury.

Many of our routes stay low to the ground, and you can climb as high as you feel comfortable. There's no pressure to reach the top. Many climbers enjoy traversing sideways along the wall instead.

Yes, all climbers must complete a waiver before climbing. You can do this online before your visit to save time, or at reception on arrival. All persons under 18 must have their waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.
